Although new windows can be installed at any time of year, spring is generally considered the best time of year for window installation. With the warming temperatures and longer days, it’s a great time to consider having new windows installed in your home, as new windows will let in more light and fresh air while giving your home a beautiful new look. Let’s look at a few more reasons why spring is the most popular time of year to install new windows.

1. Increased natural light: Spring is the perfect time to take advantage of more hours of sunlight. Newer window styles tend to have thinner frames, so more light can shine into your home.

2. Improved curb appeal: New windows can increase the value of your home by hundreds or even thousands of dollars, especially if they’re custom-made. New windows are more attractive than old ones, which tend to look outdated after years or even decades have passed since they were installed. New windows can also help modernize the look of a home, especially if you choose a striking color or style.

3. More energy savings: New windows will keep your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer, which means less energy consumption and more money in your pocket! You’ll stay cool for less during the approaching hot summer days.

4. Better security: Unfortunately, when temperatures increase, so do the number of break-ins and home invasions. Single-pane windows, old and faulty hardware, and windows that don’t seal shut won’t offer the protection of double or triple-pane windows with Fibrex® frames, and functioning windows.

5. Increased property value: Spring is a popular time of year to sell your home. Many homes go over the asking price and you can maximize the profit by choosing replacement windows as an exterior upgrade. These windows will increase the curb appeal of your home and make it more attractive to potential buyers. According to the 2023 Cost vs Value Report by Remodeling, replacement windows provide a 68.5% return on investment!

6. Better weather: Spring is the ideal time for window installation because it’s warm enough to get the job done but not too hot—you can install new windows without worrying about discomfort for your family.

After enduring the long, dreary winter, you’ll be ready to fully embrace the lighter days with new windows at a price that won’t break the bank. We can help you achieve this. It’s springtime! After the long winter, it’s time to prepare your windows for the change in seasons. Windows play a number of important roles in the home: they regulate temperature, sunlight, and airflow; they provide security; and they even affect cleanliness and aesthetics. Here are a few tips to help you get your windows ready for a beautiful spring in British Columbia:

  • Tip #1: Repair obvious damage. Now that the winter weather has ended, examine all your windows for cracks, chips, or warping. Have a professional repair major damages as soon as possible.
  • Tip #2: Check the weather stripping. The strips of material between a window’s sash and pane help seal the window, preventing outside air from leaking into your home. These strips are often one of the first features to deteriorate, so it’s important to check their condition. If they’re worn down, they can let outside air into your home, which can result in higher hydro bills.
  • Tip #3: Clean the glass. You might be surprised to see how much dirt and debris accumulate on your windows during the winter. This can break down the surface of even the best windows, causing them to age prematurely. Clean your windows with soap and water and a good glass cleaner. Don’t forget to do both sides!
  • Tip #4: Use lighter curtains. During the winter, it’s common to hang curtains made of heavier fabric and darker colours. However, during spring and summer, keeping these up can leave rooms feeling too hot and stuffy. Switch to light-coloured, thinner curtains to help with airflow, making your rooms feel brighter.
  • Tip #5: Display indoor plants. Indoor plants bring a sense of spring to any home. They not only add colour to a room, but they also filter allergens, promote natural oxygen production, and absorb carbon dioxide.

If these tips don’t restore your windows to their former glory, it may be time to invest in new ones. Renewal by Andersen of British Columbia installs superior windows protected by one of the industry’s leading warranties. Give us a call or complete our online form to schedule a consultation.

During spring, many homeowners tackle chores and maintenance tasks they put off during the colder months. One of these tasks is washing windows. You can help maintain their appeal and ensure they last a long time by regularly cleaning them.

Do the Task on a Cloudy Day

When possible, clean your windows on a cloudy day or at night. The heat from the sun can cause cleaning solutions and water to dry quickly, leaving unsightly streaks on the glass.

Gather Your Supplies

To make window cleaning easier, have all your supplies ready. You’ll need microfiber towels or lint-free cloths, soft sponges, a squeegee, a spray bottle, a manufacturer-recommended cleaning solution, and a long-handled squeegee for high and hard-to-reach places.

Remove and Clean Screens

Before you wash your windows, make sure you remove and wash the screens. Use a soft bristle brush and soapy water to remove dirt, dust, and other debris from the screens. After cleaning them, allow them to dry completely before replacing them back on your windows.

Clean the Glass, Frame, and Sill

Use a soft brush to dust window sills, hinges, and tracks. Wipe panes with a cleaning solution and a soft sponge or microfiber cloth. Be sure to get into the corners and crevices of the frames and sills.  Take your squeegee, dip its edges in clean water, and wipe the glass in an S-shaped motion. Don’t forget to wipe the squeegee with a lint-free cloth or microfiber cloth every time you lift it. Remove the remaining moisture from the window using a clean cloth.

Sometimes, cleaning isn’t enough to restore your windows to their former glory. If this is the case, it’s time to invest in durable and energy-efficient replacement windows. At Renewal by Andersen® of British Columbia, we install superior windows protected by one of the industry’s leading warranties. Give us a call or complete our online form to schedule a consultation.

Window replacement is an investment, it’s a big project that you and your home should be prepared for. To help you be fully ready for your replacement windows in spring, Renewal by Andersen® of British Columbia is here to discuss the preparation process.

How to Prepare Your Home for Window Replacement in Spring

Here are some of the most helpful ways you can prepare your home for a window installation during spring:

  1. If your home is equipped with an alarm system, turn off any systems that may be connected to your current windows. You may need to contact a professional from your home security company to have the alarms disconnected. Don’t forget to reconnect them after you’ve finished replacing your windows.

  2. If you have small children or pets at home, keep them away from the work area until you are finished. This is for the safety of the crew as well as your family and friends. If you require anything near the work area, notify the crew before entering their territory.

  3. When it comes to these types of projects, your window company can be a bit messy. Make sure that nothing fragile is in the way of the window installation process because it can cause your walls to shake. Things that are hanging or leaning against the walls should be removed. Included in this is your window treatment collection if you’re storing them to be used over your new windows.

  4. Window replacement can also be a messy endeavor. It is critical to cover your furniture with sheets to keep them clean and free of dirt and dust. It is recommended that you move your furniture four to six feet away from the work area before starting.

  5. Remove any tree limbs or shrubs that may be in the way of the construction site. This will allow the crew to have more space to work and will ensure that your windows are properly installed. Some types of windows necessitate a larger work area than others. Make certain that you understand how much space your new window type will require.

  6. Provide the crew of your trusted window contractor with a separate area where they can set up their equipment. Make sure there is an electrical outlet nearby. Prepare your garage so that the crew and their equipment can store their belongings if rain is forecast.

Whatever the season, Renewal by Andersen of British Columbia is always ready to help you with your window concerns. We offer quality replacement windows all year round, call us at (604) 200-1025 or fill out our contact form to book an appointment. We serve clients in Delta and Vancouver, CA.
